Speakers will generally be at the podium for approximately 45 minutes with 20 – 25 minutes speaking about a topic that’s relevant to retirees followed by 20 – 25 minutes of general discussions and questions. We’ll be posting a speakers’ schedule as soon as our Speakers’ List is finalized.

The Legal Stuff

A Current Overview of  Your Disability Program

Disability Attorney and Player Advocate John Hogan has been representing clients in public and private cases for over 35 years. His experience in working with many retired football players on their Social Security Disability benefits as well as their applications for disability benefits with the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle NFL Players Retirement Plan has given him first-hand experience with the process, warts and all. John has been advocating for dramatic changes to the Plan as well as the process based on his years of professional experiences (and anecdotes) in navigating the arbitrary flaws of the current system.

Lawsuits: Current Cases and Discussions

Retired player and attorney Bob Stein along with his long-time associate Bucky Zimmerman were part of a legal team that filed initiated the Dryer vs. NFL class action lawsuit in 2010. They’ll be presenting an overview of this case as well as discussing other areas of potential litigation.

Workers’ Compensation: Your Rights and Potential Benefits

Ron Mix played professional football and then transitioned into law. He currently specializes in Workers’ Compensation cases for professional athletes in many sports arenas and will be providing a Workers Compensation 101 overview for retired players.

The Antitrust Lawsuit Against the NFL & Decertification and What It Means to You

Attorney Carl Lopez will be speaking on the NFL’s antitrust protection, the Union’s decertification strategy and how it will affect you as retired players. This is going to be a very interesting discussion from a different perspective.

Announcing a New Therapy Program for Dire Need Retirees

Dr. Michael Propper and Mike Sloniewsky from OsteoArthritis Centers of America will be announcing and discussing their plans to begin the rollout of a new therapy program with Independent Football Veterans which will be provided at absolutely no cost for those retired players with the most dire need.

The Latest News and Studies on Concussions

Dr. Barry Sears is best known for his best-selling book, The Zone, and its accompanying diet program. Dr. Sears will be speaking about his more recent studies on the long-term effects of concussions and their link to inflammation. His foundation has developed a test kit that identifies chemical bio-markers that indicate the presence of concussion symptoms; Dr. Sears has also developed diet programs and supplement regimens that have been shown to help in the treatment of the aftereffects of concussions.

Announcing: Concussion Test Kits!

Each retired football player attending the Conference will receive the first concussion test kits from a planned national rollout of a retired football players test kit study –  all at no cost to attending retirees.

All about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Dr. Jim Wright and Steve Reimers will be speaking about the benefits of HBOT in treating head trauma and concussions. Reimers Systems will also be bringing a portable chamber for attendees to check out while they’re at the Conference. Steve will also be giving an overview of the new study that they’re launching in conjunction with The Amen Clinic on treating concussions with HBOT. Retired Super Bowl XVI 49’ers George Visger and Dan Bunz will be telling the audience about their lives after football. George will also talk about his personal experiences and improvements after years of suffering from the consequences of concussions. Ed Nemeth will give an overview on George’s recent HBOT treatment regimen.
